VOLLEYBALL

There is a lot to learn to play this sport, and one of the most important things you need to learn are all the different positions, formations, and roles for each position. Volleyball positions determine what your role is out on the court during a game. There are six positions on a volleyball court, each position serves a unique role in the success of the team and each player has a specific job to do and each position works with the teammates to make the best play possible. Just like other competitive teams, you need to depend on each player to not only do their job but do their job well. Three of the players are positioned on the front court and three on the back court. Players have to rotate clockwise whenever their team wins serve so their positions on the court will change. One of the requirements of the SETTER is having a delicate touch to set the ball perfectly for one of the attacking players. Communication is extremely important for the setter because they need to get the rest of the players on the same page. Also uses "dump shot" to keep opponents off balance. Since they can play in either the front or back row, setters need to be ready to block, dig and receive a serve on defense. The setter is also the playmaker, point guard or the quarterback of the volleyball team, without the setter, there wouldn’t be hard spikes or technical ball movement.
An OUTSIDE HITTER commonly knows as wing spiker whosw mainly responsible for attacking and scoring. Must have good stamina to deal with the high volume of sets they receive and should be a skilled passer to help on serve receive and defense. This player is typically a power hitter and is a go-to for setters when passes are not perfect because of the angle of their attack options.
MIDDLE BLOCKER must read the opponent's setter and quick enough to get from one end of the court to the other to block the ball. The middle also hits quick sets and keeps the other team's defense off balance. Middle blockers main responsibility is to stop the opponent’s offense and need to have great blocking, attacking and serving skills. A great middle blocker is a major key to your team's defense.
OPPOSITE HITTER , attacker on the right side considered the most versatile because they can excel on offense and defense. They will not only hit the ball from the front and back row but also dig for quick attacks and set the ball if the setter is unable to do it. During defense, they will also help on blocks with the middle blocker.
LIBERO, the team's most consistent passer and a leader on defensewho plays from the back row and wears opposite coloured jersey from the rest of the team. The Libero is not regulated by the rules of rotation and remains in the game all the time. This player will generally receive the serve or dig the attack. Usually plays more than their teammates unless splitting time with another libero.
DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST is another position that it’s main focus is defense. Specializes in passing and must find a good balance between aggressive defense and trust with their team's libero. This player is essential in defense and serve receive, but often gets less credit than they deserve. They usually come in for a player who does not have the skill to play the back row. Unlike a libero, a defensive specialist must make a substitution with the referee, and they can play the front row if needed. They are also able to play as a back-row hitter.
